ANZAC in ANZAC

ANZAC or Australia New Zealand Army Corps was a corps formed as the result of World War I. As it is told, World War I or Great War was a war between the Triple Entente (Great Britain, France and Russia aided by United States of America, Belgium, Japan and others) and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, aided by Turkey and Bulgaria) (Rivera, 2011). This war happened almost for four years. It started from July 18th, 1914 and ended on November 11th, 1918. As one of Great Britain colonies, Australia, cooperated with New Zealand, formed an army named ANZAC. These two countries sent their soldiers to help Great Britain in the war. ANZAC was the first army Australia constructed after the federation.

ANZAC soldiers landed in Turkey on April 25th, 1914 after they were stationed in Egypt to have some sort of trainings. However, a tragic mistake happens. The location where Australian soldiers landed were too close to the enemies’ position and too far from British soldiers’ camps. It caused the help in the term of weapons from Great Britain could not be gotten as soon as possible. Due to this fact, Australian soldiers lacked of weapons and helps. Subsequently, they could easily be defeated by the enemies’ soldiers, who relatively had more complete and modern weapon than Australian soldiers did.

The result of this war was the Triple Entente won the war. However, there was no winner in the war. Every country involved suffered and lost many souls. In Australia’s side, there were many Australian people included in ANZAC died in this war. There were for about 61, 522 Australian people who died in Great War from 417,000 Australians who had enlisted for service in World War I (Rivera, 2011). It reached almost 65% from all people included in World War I from Australia who died, wounded, sick and also went missing. Australia did suffer a lot from its involvement in the Great War.

Furthermore, to commemorate this heroism, nowadays Australian people have the so called ANZAC day. ANZAC day is celebrated on April 25th every year.  It is memorialized by having ANZAC parade which includes all the veterans from the wars and current members of Australian corps. It is televised and watched by thousands of people in Australia. In addition, on this day, people throughout Australia baked biscuits named ANZAC biscuits. This biscuit is actually originated from the food that ANZAC soldiers ate when they were involved in the war. These are some of many ways Australian people appreciate what the soldiers had done to the countries.

There are many literary works created to depict what happened in ANZAC and the war the soldiers involved. A poem by Bartlett Adamson entitled ANZAC is one of them. Here is the poem

ANZAC
 by Bartlett Adamson

By purple hills and opalescent sea
And sunlit leagues of plain they lived, and they
Were summery-hearted all, and life was gay,
And peace was theirs, and love, and liberty.
And when the clarion sounded suddenly,
They went, a rollicking band of boys at play
Tilted at doom, and there, at Anzac Bay,
Died...but they taught the world what men they be.
And Anzac now is an enchanted shore;
A tragic splendor, and a holy name;
A deed eternity will still acclaim;
A loss that crowns the victories of yore;
A glittering golden dome for evermore
Shining above the minarets of fame.

George Ernest Bartlett Adamson or mostly known as Bartlett Adamson was born on December 22nd, 1884 at Cascade, Ringarooma in Tasmania, Australia. His mother was Scottish and his mother was English. He once became a clerk in New Zealand. However, he was always interested in literature. He published a volume of verse, Twelve Sonnets in 1918. Besides, he also created many poems after that such as White Stars on the Blue, Strike for Indonesian Freedom, The Oath of Eureka and, of course, ANZAC.

As the title suggests, this poem tells the readers the story of ANZAC. This poem consists of two stanzas and fourteen lines. Fourteen lines may not be enough to depict all what had happened in the war involving ANZAC. However, the narrator tries to describe her/his point of view about what happened at that time and the effect of it towards people.

The first stanza consists of eight lines. It can be divided into two parts. Each part consists of four lines. The division here is caused by the same ideas that are conveyed in the lines in each division. The first part of the first stanza consists of the first four lines. They are constructed in run-on line sentence. As we can see that they are actually involved in one sentence, but they are divided into several parts in the form of lines. These lines tell the readers about the condition of Australia before the war happened.  Australia looked lovely in the perspective of the narrator as described in the poem. The utilization of the word opalescent, gay, peace, love and liberty proves it. Furthermore, seen from the way how the narrator depicts the situation in Australia at the time by using those lines, the portrayal that comes to mind is that Australia is really beautiful, has good scenery with the purple hills, opalescent sea and sunlit league. In addition, people were happy living in Australia. It is depicted in the second and third lines “they lived and they were summery hearted all, and life was gay”. The reason why these people were happy living in Australia was that due to the peacefulness, love and liberty existed in the country. The fourth line portrays it.

The second part of the first stanza also consists of four lines, which is the rests of the lines in that very stanza. They are constructed based on enjambment too. These lines tell the readers the time when the war began. It is represented by clarion that sounded suddenly. Clarion is the medieval trumpet that is usually utilized as a sign to tell people that there is a war starts. Another sign that these lines illustrate that the war began is the rollicking band played. A band is usually played when the soldiers are sent to the battlefield. The band is played in boisterous high spirits along the way. This band is intended to give spirits to the soldiers in particular so that they have high motivation to fight and win the war.  The war meant here is World War I. As aforesaid, it is told that British government asked Australia to help its soldiers to face the war. The seventh line shows that Australian soldiers struggled at doom in the war. They tried so hard to face the enemies. Nonetheless, many of them died in the battlefield, as in the poem represented by Anzac bay. In the poem, the narrator does not see that this happening is to be regretted. S/he portrays that the death of those soldiers in the war teach other people and maybe her/himself that that is how men should be. They should fight for their country and make it proud of them.

The last stanza tells that the narrator tries to portray people’s impressions about ANZAC at the moment. Anzac bay today is depicted as an enchanted shore in the poem. A coast that is beautiful and captivating. Nevertheless, it cannot be forgotten that there once was a tragic occurrence taking place there in ANZAC era. ANZAC, based on the narrator’s point of view, is remembered as something holy yet tragic. Tragic because there were many people died in fighting at the war. This memory, however, will eternally stay in Australian people’s mind every time they hear ANZAC talked about. The bravery of ANZAC soldiers will still be admired. It is depicted in the poem that there is a memory lingered among the beauty of Anzac bay and the glittering golden of its water. A memory, as stated in the fourth line of the second stanza, of a loss that crowns the victories of yore. The victories of the Great War that, however, caused Australians to suffer from losing people they loved. They lost their fathers, husbands, boyfriends and friends. The costs that they had to pay were too much. Currently, if Australian people hear Anzac bay mentioned, what comes to their minds is the beautiful sea with the reflection of the sunshine that shine the tower of ANZAC fame long time ago, as stated in the very last line of the poem.

In a nutshell, ANZAC is one of many essential stories in Australia History. There are many stories involved in it. As one of the essential parts of Australia, there are many literary works concerning ANZAC. One of them is a poem entitled ANZAC written by Bartlett Adamson. This poem illustrates how Australia was a peaceful land before the episode of ANZAC. Australian people were pleased living in the land. This condition, afterwards, changed when there was a clarion sounded suddenly to tell Australian people that there was a war began, World War I where Australian government should sent its army to help Great Britain facing the war. This war virtually caused them to suffer. They lost people they loved in the war. They lost many souls, yet they still thought that it should not be bemoaned for it was how men should be. At the present time, whenever Australian people hear about ANZAC, they imagine about the opalescent sea where there was once a tragic war, a glittering golden that crowns the victory of the war Australian people experienced a long time ago, a light that shines the tower of Australian fame.

The Notion of Mateship as Reflected in Production of Literary work in Australia

Every culture in this world has its own ideal towards the notion of mateship. Some of the exemplifications about mateship around the world can be found in Indonesian and American mateship. Indonesian embraces the value of collectivistic culture which treats everyone as a family, while American mateship is determined by the notion of equality. The saying “every man for himself” may be more than enough to explain this equality in America

Australia is another country which is famous with its mateship. Mateship derives from the word 'mate', which is utilized in Australian English as a synonym for 'cobber', which indicates a habitual companion, associate, friend or partner. 'Mate' has also been used as a style of address, which shows friendliness and equality, as in the famous ''ow yer goin' mate, orright? Mateship in this country is well-known to be really strong. It is even said that there is no country lionises mateship to the same degree as Australia does. The concept of mateship is deeply rooted in the heart of Australian people. It has been shown since Gold Rush until today.

As stated before, this idea of mateship has been shaped since the Gold Rush that happened in 1859. People all over the world swarmed to Australia. They came to Australia and made living there as gold miners. As immigrants, they felt that they shared the same feeling, the sentiment of being apart from their homelands. This sense, later on, formed a bound among the gold miners. This bound was the initial point of their mateship. This bound was formed be them socializing with other miners from other countries, shared their laaughter and problems, became close to one another and befriended them. This mateship became stronger as the days go by. It continued to happen during the gold rush and may be after the gold rush ended.

The spirits of mateship in the gold fields are reflected in Henry Lawson’s works, particularly in his short stories. Henry Lawson was the subject in the Gold Rush era. He experienced the feeling of being a member of Gold Rush families. He was insisted to include himself in that condition for his father who was driven mad by gold left the family in the most terrible condition. People who shared the same experienced were Lawson’s friends in that era. That is why he is able to talk a lot about mateship in any literary works which have relation to Gold Rush. The exemplifications of Lawson’s short stories about mateship are Mateship in Shakespeare’s Rome and A Sketch of Mateship.

Talking about Henry Lawson, he is the icon of Australian literary works which takes mateship as the theme. The book writers named J. le Gay Brereton states how Henry Lawson works are very influenced by mateship idea. In his book, Brereton says that Henry Lawson is one of the few who acclaims the idea of mateship. Most of his writings are talking about mateship such as His Father’s Mate, His Mother’s Mate, A Sketch of Mateship (as aforesaid), and many other Lawson’s works. Ironically, the idea of mateship brought by Henry Lawson is addressed to men. It seems that the word “mateship” belongs to only men. This issue becomes a debatable issue in Australia. Journalists and Feminists in particular raise critiques towards this issue. It may be considered as the dark side of mateship in Australia.

Another sense of mateship is also triggered by the history of Anzac soldiers. Anzac is a concept which explains that Australian and New Zealand soldiers own shared courage, specifically the qualities those soldiers are believed to have shown on the battlefield in World War I (Wikipedia, 2010). Their involvement in the battlefields of World War I may be due to their sense of belonging to the land. Besides, they did not want another country (Germany) to occupy them. The Anzac soldiers were respected for their bravery, endurance, and solidarity among one another. The mateship formed in Anzac originated from the fact that they fought together. They also have the same purposes. The only thing that was in the Anzac’s soldiers at that time was they did not want to let his friends die alone. They were trying so hard to make their friends died with companion. Friends were the only family they had at that moment. Almost similar with other soldiers around the world, the Anzac’s soldiers were very hard to survive. They did understand with this condition. That is why they were trying as hard as they could to make their friends died in the companion from other friends. The feeling of togetherness among them structures mateship, the strong one, afterwards.

Mateship in Anzac may have given inspirations to the writers to write the literary works. These literary works were made to scrutinize the strong mateship that the soldiers had during the World War I. They are mostly emphasized by a 1983 survey which showed that mateship is regarded by as the main reason for the higher survival rate of Australians in Japanese POW camps in 1942-45. The reflection of this mateship among the Anzac soldiers is depicted in C.E.W. Bean and others writing about Australian soldiers in the First World War, Leonard Mann's novel Flesh in Armour (q.v., 1932) and Alan Seymour's play The One Day of the Year (1962).

In a nutshell, there are two aspects, Gold Rush and Anzact, which turn out to be the underlying idea of mateship. These two events are highly influential for the growth of mateship idea in Australia. The sense being stranded in the land of nowhere and high expectation for a better lives are the idea which lay behind the Gold Rush, while, sense of belonging is the concept of Anzact. These ideas build up Australia as a country which is very famous with the word mateship. It is also reflected in a significant part of the production of Australian literature. Henry Lawson is considered as one of few “literary workers” who gives high influence into the growth of mateship in Australia. However, the idea that is popularized by Lawson becomes the debatable issue for the country. It is because the idea of mateship, in Henry Lawson’s sense, belongs only to men. This matter needs discussing further in Australia nowadays for the role of women has to be counted too as it does to men.\

Arithmetical Love

The Square Root of Three
David Feinberg
I fear that I will always be
A lonely number like root three
The three is all that’s good and right,
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath the vicious square root sign,
I wish instead I were a nine
For nine could thwart this evil trick,
with just some quick arithmetic
I know I’ll never see the sun, as 1.7321
Such is my reality, a sad irrationality
When hark! What is this I see,
Another square root of a three
Has quietly come waltzing by,
Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer,
Rejoicing as an integer
We break free from our mortal bonds
With the wave of magic wands
Our square root signs become unglued
Your love for me has been renewed

Arithmetical Love
An Analysis of David Feinberg’s The Square Root of Three

The Square Root of Three is a poem written by David Feinsberg. This poem is called lyrical poem since this work is a form of poem that expresses personal and emotional feeling of the narrator. Basically, all poem should be analyzed using objective and subjective approach (or formal and content analysis), it also prevails in The Square Root of Three. In this poem, we can see many aspects that can be covered by objective and subjective approach, such as metrical system, rhyme scheme, alliteration, theme, figurative languages, and so forth, that should be scrutinized first before, at last, we can come to the comprehension of the meaning that want to be conveyed by the poem.
Initially, the focus of this analysis is by using objective approach (formal analysis). To begin with, let us talk about the most obvious aspect that is able to be seen in a poem, that is the number of stanza. This poem consists of eight stanzas. The number of lines in each stanza is barely different. The first, third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth stanzas are made up of two lines, and the rests (the second and sixth stanza) entail four lines. After that, the metrical system is covered. It can be said that this poem uses iambic tetrameter as its metrical system for most of the lines use this metrical system, yet there is an exception, that is iambic octameter (with a sprungrythm: a spondee in the eight feet), for the fourth stanza. Moreover, the number of the syllable mostly is eight syllables except the fourth stanza, which has sixteen syllables. Because of this metrical system aspect, this poem has masculine rhyme because the final syllables of the rhyming words are always stressed. In relation to the stanza and the sentences in the poem, there are several enjambments that occur in this poem. As we can see, most stanzas are constructed in run-on line, the first, third, sixth stanzas for instance. Here, we can see that they actually are in one sentence but they are divided into several parts in the form of lines. Next aspect that can be analyzed objectively is the rhyme scheme. This poem has aabbccddefaagghhiijj as its rhyme scheme. Afterwards, alliteration comes to be analyzed.  Alliteration happens quite frequently in the poem. It occurs in the second line (lonely-like), third line (the-that), sixth line (wish-were), seventh line (thwart-this), ninth line (see-sun), tenth line (such-sad), eleventh line (when-what), seventeenth line (free-from), and eighteenth line (with-wave). Next feature to be scrutinized is theme. The theme of this poem is obviously about love. When the readers read the early lines of The Square Root of Three, they may not figure out that the theme of this poem is love, but when they get to the end of this poem, they may be going to realize that The Square Root of Three is a love poem. Besides, the atmosphere that is established through the diction used is all about love. Subsequently, here comes the figurative language. This poem utilizes, at least, three figurative languages. The first one is metaphor. Metaphor is employed in the first stanza (I feel that I will always be a lonely number). This stanza has metaphor as its figurative language for there is a direct comparison between ‘I’ and a lonely number. The second one is personification, which is deployed in the fourth and fifth lines (Why must my three keep out of sight beneath the vicious square), seventh line (For nine could thwart this evil trick), thirteenth line (Has quietly come waltzing by), and the eighteenth line (with the wave of magic wands). It is due to the fact that some things stated in the poem is humanlike, they can do something that usually only humans that are able to do so. The last is simile. Simile can be identified with the utilization of the words ‘as’ and ‘like’ to show the comparison of two things, A lonely number like root three (the second line), I know I’ll never see the sun, as 1.7321 (the ninth line) and Rejoicing as an integer (the sixteenth stanza) for instance.
Subsequently, the next point to be explored is the subjective approach or content analysis of the poem. This poem forms a story that is chronological here. Alike other stories in the prosaic form, this poem has three elements in its stanzas, those elements are order, climax and re-order. In the order part, the writer usually begins to introduce the readers to the situation of the story. In The Square Root of Three, the order part is in the first to third stanzas. In these stanzas, the writer tells that there is a narrator (“I”) who sees his life as an arithmetical problem. The narrator feels that his life is lonely and he (we prefer to use the pronoun “he” here) compares his lonely life to a number of three that stands beneath a square root. The narrator thinks that under that square root, he cannot enjoy his life as much as the other who can free themselves from any obstructions, which, in this case, is represented by the number of nine for when nine stands up beneath a square root, it still can result an integer, which is three. The next stanza (the fourth stanza) is the climax of the story told through this poem. Climax is a state where a story comes to its most important or exciting point. Here, the narrator sees himself as 1.7321, which is the result from the square root of three. By being like this, the narrator believes that it is a sad reality of his to see the life, which is represented by the sun, incompletely. In this state, the narrator finds himself imperfect. He is not an integer that can stand by itself. He is a fraction, he is defective, and in his opinion, by being like this, he cannot see his life as perfect as an integer, as other people may see. Furthermore, the number of syllable used here can also identify the climax. As aforementioned, this very stanza has the longest syllables used, that are sixteen syllables, while others only utilize eight syllables for each. It shows that this very stanza has an important point to the story. This important point is, as aforesaid, the climax of the story. The rest of the stanzas are also able to strengthen this opinion. The next four stanzas show the re-order or denouement part of this story. This aspect shows the final part of the story when everything is made clear and no question or surprise remains. In this poem, the finding of another square root of three illustrates this point. In the fifth to eight stanzas, we can see that the narrator has found someone to share his loneliness that finally becomes his lover. He also matches up this someone to the square root of three whom he can multiply with so that they together can form an integer. An integer here shows something complete. Therefore, by multiplying him to his live or in other word, by being together, they can fulfil their dream to see the world and enjoy their lives completely as what other people can do.
In a nutshell, David Feinberg’s The Square Root of Three has many things to cover, for example the number of the stanza, metrical system, rhyme scheme, alliteration, figurative languages, and other formal aspects of the poem. By analyzing these aspects, then we can come to the meaning that wants to be expressed. Some formal aspects may assist the readers to come to the understanding of the poem’s meaning for we can also relate the formal aspects of the poem to its meaning. As we can see, this poem uses the constant number of syllables for each stanza except for its fourth stanza, and it has been proven that it has a significant part to the poem. Here, we can conclude that we cannot just separate one thing to the others in analyzing something, in this case poem, for everything is connected and related.

Australia and World War I

World War I was a dreadful war that happened from July 28th, 1914 to November 11th, 1918. This four years war did cost a lot. Many people lost their homes, money, peacefulness and even souls. The after war effect was really influential to the countries involved and it mostly bad. Their citizens were starved, their economical condition decreased because they use all of their money and wealth to pay all the weapons and ransom they used in the war, and many other inopportune things occurred due to the war.
World War I did not happen without any reasons. The war originally arose because of the murder of Prince Franz Ferdinand and his wife, who came from Austria by one of Serbia terrorists named Gavilo Princip. This incident caused Austria to ask for help from Germany to fight against Serbia. Russia helped Serbia to face the war, and then Russia was attacked by Germany. These, subsequently, were the root to the bigger conflicts that included so many countries with many different political reasons, which later on called World War I or Great War or War of the Nations or War to End All Wars. The latest may not be true for this war actually cause bigger conflicts among many countries to appear.
World War I engaged two big allies. They were Axis and Allies. While Axis included Great Britain, Russia, United States of America, France, Canada, Italy and many other countries such as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and many other countries, Allies included Austria (at that time this country was called Austria-Hungary), Germany, Bulgaria and Ottoman Imperialism.
As abovementioned, Australia was one of countries that included in World War I. At that time, Australia had just become a federal state. It took place on January 1st, 1901 after a long journey to become united as Australia. It was due to the fact that before 1901, Australia was only an association of some states, New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Northern, Western Territory and South Australia, which regarded one another as economics rivals. After a long struggle to assure the Great Britain government and their own citizens that they were strong enough to build their own country, those states united become one country called Australia. However, Australia, at that time, was still under the leadership of Great Britain government, or it may be more well-known as commonwealth of Great Britain (which is still like that up to at the moment). When the World War I was happening, Australians had an idea to support Great Britain by sending their soldiers to help Great Britain in fighting against the allies, although Australian’s navy was just structured on 1991, which may not be as strong as others’.
The support that Australians gave to their soldiers to fight and help Great Britain win the World War I may mean many things to them. As we know that at that moment Australia just became a federal state.  People around the world possibly had not known the existence of this new country yet. It could be one of the reasons why Australia whole-heartedly lent Great Britain a hand to fight against the allies with its newborn navy. Australia wanted to show the world that there had been a country called Australia. Even though it was still a new country, Australia could contribute to the big occasion that was happening to the world right that moment.
Besides, to show the power the country had may be another reason for Australia to include itself into the war. As stated in the history of Australia, Australians avoided holding wars during the struggle to free itself from Great Britain because they think the wars that might happen would surely cost a lot, for example their money, peacefulness and particularly citizens’ souls. Since it was a new country that just emerged thirteen years before the war happened, the help that Australia gave to Great Britain in the World War would be very essential. Thirteen years was too short for a country to be known by the world and taken into account in anything occurred in the world. Power was one of the most essential things to have and show at that time so that other countries would not underestimate Australia.
Furthermore, every war was seen from every people in this world’s point of view. People’s point of view may be really significant to Australia. In this sense, Australia including itself to the World War I may change people’s point of view about Australia’s position compared to Great Britain, which historically was famous for its power because this country colonized many other countries. Formerly, people around the world may see that Australia’s position was under Great Britain in every way. It may be true in the term of diplomatic relation because Australia, even though had become federal state, was still under the control of Great Britain. Yet, by joining World War I to support Great Britain’s army, people’s view towards Australia was hoped to change. It may change into a view that Australia and Great Britain were actually equal. It could be proven by the fact that Great Britain virtually still needed the help from Australia, which basically under its control and relatively inferior contrasted to the superiority of Great Britain, to face the war.
From all of the things aforesaid, apart from the loss that Australia got from including itself in World War I, that previously, in the effort of having its own sovereign, evaded; I can state that World War I had big influences to Australia. World War I, however atrocious it was, played a big positive role to Australia. It was for after including itself in the war, other countries around the world began to know Australia and considered the country as one of countries that needed to be brought into play in the world. It indirectly helped the new country to show its existence to the world and also the power Australia had that it, later on, would not be underrated by other countries.

A Twist in My Story
(Secondhand Serenade)

Slow down, the world isn't watching us break down
It's safe to say we are alone now, we're alone now
Not a whisper, the only noise is the receiver
I'm counting the seconds until you break the silence
So please just break the silence

The whispers turn to shouting
The shouting turns to tears
Your tears turn into laughter
And it takes away our fears

So you see, this world doesn't matter to me
I'll give up all I had just to breathe
The same air as you till the day that I die
I can't take my eyes off of you

And I'm longing, for words to describe how I'm feeling
I'm feeling inspired
My world just flip turned upside down
It turns around, say what's that sound
It's my heart beat, it's getting much louder
My heart beat, is stronger than ever
I'm feeling so alive, I'm feeling so alive

My whispers turn to shouting
The shouting turns to tears
Your tears turn into laughter
And it takes away our fears

So you see, this world doesn't matter to me
I'll give up all I had just to breathe
The same air as you till the day that I die
I can't take my eyes off of you

I'm finally waking up, a twist in my story
It's time I open up, and let your love right through me
I'm finally waking up, a twist in my story
It's time I open up, and let your love right through me
That's what you get
When you see your life in someone else's eyes
That's what you get, that's what you get

So you see, this world doesn't matter to me
I'll give up all I had just to breathe
The same air as you till the day that I die
I can't take my eyes off of you
This world doesn't matter to me
I'll give up all I had just to breathe
The same air as you till the day that I die
I can't take my eyes off of you

Your Guardian Angel
(The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus)

When I see your smile
Tears run down my face
I can't replace

And now that I'm stronger I've figured out
How this world turns cold
And it breaks through my soul
And I know, I'll find deep inside me
I can be the one

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to Heaven
It's okay, it's okay, it's okay

Seasons are changing and waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorte
I can show you, I'll be the one

I will never let you fal
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to Heaven

'Cause you're my, you're my, my
My true love, my whole heart
Please don't throw that away

'Cause I'm here for you
Please don't walk away
And please tell me, you'll stay, stay

Use me as you will
Pull my strings just for a thrill
And I know, I'll be okay
Though my skies are turning gray

I will never let you fall
'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to Heaven

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to Heaven

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever

Jet Lag (French Version)

Quel heure est-il où tu es ?
Un autre avion et tu repars
Je me sens si loin si tu savais
Et j’attends ton retour encore
C’est comme si on vivait à l’envers
J’aimerais te dire qu’on pourra s’y faire
Tryin to figure out the time zones makin me crazy

You say good morning
When it’s midnight
Going out of my head
Alone in this bed
Quand je m’endors tu te réveilles
Et je compte les heures j’en perds le sommeil
And my heart, heart, heart is so jetlagged
Heart, heart, heart is so jetlagged
Heart, heart, heart is so jetlagged, so jetlagged

Oh Oh

Je te cherche quand tu n’es pas là
Dans une semaine je reviendrais
Je perds mon souffle quand tu t’en vas
Je m’imagine à tes côtés
Même si j’essaie de l’ignorer
Tu es toujours là dans mes pensées
Tryin to figure out the time zones makin me crazy

You say good morning
When it’s midnight
Going out of my head
Alone in this bed
Quand je m’endors tu te réveilles
Et je compte les heures j’en perds le sommeil
And my heart, heart, heart is so jetlagged
Heart, heart, heart is so jetlagged
Heart, heart, heart is so jetlagged, so jetlagged

Oh Oh
Oh Oh Oh

Je suis perdu sans toi
Je t’attends encore
Je suis perdu sans toi
Mais rentre il est tard
Je suis perdu sans toi
Et je veux vivre ton aurore
Je suis perdu sans toi
Et qu’on en sorte plus fort
Je suis perdu sans toi
Turn the hour hand back to when you were holding me
You say good morning
When it’s midnight
Going out of my head
Alone in this bed
Quand je m’endors tu te réveilles
Et je compte les heures I miss when

You say good morning
When it’s midnight
Going out of my head
Alone in this bed
Quand je m’endors (je m’endors) tu te réveilles (tu te réveilles)
Et je compte les heures j’en perds le sommeil
And my heart, heart, heart is so jetlagged
Heart, heart, heart is so jetlagged
Heart, heart, heart is so jetlagged, so jetlagged

Oh Oh
So jetlagged

Your Birthday Poem :*

Today, I put my last X on the calendar
The day I’ve been longing for
Has come welcoming me pleasantly

No need, I guess, to say things exaggerately
I’m just not proficient, as you may have known

 ‘Happy Birthday, My Hubby’
Every prayer I pray for you solemnly
Hope everything’s gonna be much better
Today, tomorrow, and the days after that

I’ll always be by your side in those moments of your time
For you know, I’ve been loving you till today
And will always love you to the end of time
